ParkFest back Tuesday with Bean, Blues Side Up

Sunday, July 6, 2014

Another installment of the Greencastle Civic League's ParkFest summer music series is set for Tuesday at the Bob Flanigan Bandshell at Robe-Ann Park.

The free concert will begin at 6:30 p.m., with John Bean, followed by Blues Side Up.

Bean plays folk styles on guitar, banjo and fiddle and came from a singing family.

A multi-instrumentalist and collector of old folk songs, Bean has also built and repaired his own instruments over the years,.

His repertoire is eclectic, and should provide examples of a variety of lively traditional folk songs and styles on Tuesday evening.

He will be followed by the high-energy rockin' blues of Blues Side Up.

Formed four years ago by local musicians Steve St. Pierre (guitar, vocals) and Jonathan January (bass, flure, vocals), Blues Side Up has gone through a couple of lineup changes to now feature Mark Wayne Minnick on drums and Steve Michael on guitar and vocals.

Blues Side Up released its debut EP "Grey" in 2010, followed by the full-length record "Ain't Got the Time" in 2011.

Both records featured the production of Bonnie Raitt and Bruce Hornsby and the Range guitarist George Marinelli and keyboard from Reece Wyans, best known for his work with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble.

A Blues Side Up show promises to be high energy and a lesson in what the blues should sound like. The ParkFest crowd should expect more of the same on Tuesday.

Upcoming ParkFest performances include:

* July 15: Monika Hertzig, Saturday Shoes

* July 29: Carly Rhine, Haley Jonay, October Scene
