Putnam Purdue Club lists 2014 scholarship recipients

The Purdue Club of Putnam County has announced its scholarship recipients for 2014, as well as the recipients of the Edward and Barbara Brookshire Purdue Scholarship.

The recipients were honored at the club's dinner at Autumn Glen following its annual golf scramble June 25 at Windy Hill Country Club.

Four county students who have received $700 Purdue Club scholarships are:

-- Tanner Dean, a freshman at Purdue University, majoring in chemical engineering. A 2014 Greencastle High School graduate, he is the son of Michael and Teresa Dean.

-- Erik Norlin, a Purdue sophomore majoring in mathematics, economics and statistics. A 2013 Greencastle High School graduate, he is the son of William and Julie Norlin.

-- Tatum Straziscar, a Purdue sophomore majoring in speech pathology. A 2013 North Putnam High School graduate, she is the daughter of Sean and Kristy Straziscar.

-- Diane Wokoun, a Purdue senior majoring in human services and psychology. A 2011 Greencastle High School graduate, she is the daughter of Doug and Nancy Wokoun.

Three county residents have received scholarships from the Edward and Barbara Brookshire Purdue Scholarship Fund, which is administered by the Purdue Club and honors students in agriculture-related fields. They are:

-- Taylor Hicks, a Purdue freshman majoring in animal science. A 2014 South Putnam High School graduate, she is the daughter of David and Dawn Hicks.

-- Valerie Scott, a Purdue junior majoring in animal science. A 2012 North Putnam High School graduate, she is the daughter of Terry and Lynn Scott.

-- Sarah Woodworth, a Purdue sophomore majoring in animal science. A 2013 South Putnam High School graduate, she is the daughter of Becky Woodworth.

Purdue Club scholarships are funded from its scholarship fund with the Putnam County Community Foundation.

The Purdue Club first issued scholarships in 2002, and since that time, 37 county students have received scholarships totaling $21,200.

At the recent dinner following its golf scramble, the Purdue Club honored its scholarship recipients and heard remarks from three Purdue University officials.

Purdue women's basketball assistant coach Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton discussed the women's basketball program, while Chad Johnson, a Purdue Alumni Association vice president, discussed the importance of engaging present Purdue students with alumni programs, and Emily Butler of the John Purdue Club discussed its connection with the Purdue athletic programs.

Four of the scholarship recipients, Tanner Dean, Erik Norlin, Tatum Straziscar and Taylor Hicks, were introduced and discussed their future studies at Purdue.
