Howl at the Moon

Thursday, August 14, 2014

Every year runners from Greencastle go to Danville, Ill., to run in the world's largest timed ultra marathon, The Howl at the Moon, held at Kennekuk Cove County Park. This year nine local runners went with all of them completing more than a 50K (roughly 31 miles) and placing in their age group in the timed, eight-hour event. Each person sees how far they can run on a 3.29-mile loop of trail, grass and road. Local competitors include (front) Melissa Scott and Michael Scott, (back, from left) Jeff Gackenheimer, Kristi Mervar, Rebecka Howard, Jennifer Edwards, Kathryn Dresbach, Thomas Standers and Neil Campbell. Dresbach and Michael Scott both placed in the overall division with 50.35 miles.
