Woodland Owners conference to include Big Walnut Preserve

Friday, October 31, 2014

The annual Indiana woodland owner conference will meet Nov. 7-8 at Turkey Run State Park.

Hosted by the Indiana Forestry and Woodland Owners Association, more than 150 people are expected.

"If you have an interest in forestry -- or just love the woods -- you should attend," IFWOA President Raoul Moore said. "We're offering a program that's relevant, informative and fun."

Anyone is welcome to register and can learn more at www.ifwoa.org or by calling (765) 583-3501.

Friday morning, Nov. 8 will feature a tour of the Big Walnut Nature Preserve near Bainbridge, a national natural landmark home to several rare plants.

Afternoon bus tours of a local landowner's woodland property will be departing from the Turkey Run Inn. The tour will view wildlife and forest habitat and discuss woodland management.

The Saturday day program offers eight sessions on forest management, "Woodland Owner University." Topics include "New and Emerging Invasive Threats" and "Successful Timber Harvests."

State Forester Jack Seifert will review the latest issues of interest to private landowners.

The Indiana Forestry and Woodland Owners Association (IFWOA) promotes good stewardship of Indiana's woodlands. Members own their woods for many reasons but share an interest in conserving our natural resources.

IFWOA has more than 600 members statewide.
