DPU runners earn All-Region

MASON, Ohio --Backed by Heather O'Brien's 18th-place finish, the DePauw women cross country team totaled 221 points and finished seventh at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional on Saturday. Calvin won with 61 points, while Oberlin was second with 73.

O'Brien covered the 6,000 meters in 22:25.3, while Emma MacAnally joined her in earning all-region honors by finishing 26th in 22:29.5.

Cloverdale native Claudia Monnett crossed in 23:07.0 and finished 54th, while Hope Jordan was 57th in 23:09.5. Lois Miller placed 69th in 23:21.6 with Becca Conley finishing 77th in 23:35.1 and Hallie Bechtel in 91st in 23:46.3.

Calvin's Cassandra Vince won in 21:01.1.

"I am extremely proud of our finish," DePauw head coach Kori Stoffregen said.

"We got great races again from our top runners Heather and Emma and Claudia really stepped up her game with her best race of the year. I am very excited for this team next year."

Paced by Noah Gatwood's 18th-place finish, the DePauw men totaled 260 points and finished eighth of the 37 teams competing at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional. Wabash won with 46 points, while Mount Union was second with 135.

Gatwood paced the Tigers with a 24.59.3 time over the 8,000 meters, while Paul Watts (pictured) joined him as an all-region runner after finishing 33rd in 25:11.2.

Will Bond crossed in 25:17.1 and finished 41st With Polo Burguete finishing 78th in 25:48.7.Kevin Kenney was 90th in 25:57.4 followed by Brian Myers in 98th in 26:04.2 and Brad Wise in 129th in 26:37.2.

Mount Union's Dan McGeary was the individual winner in 24:22.0.

"Our men were 13th last year so we are excited about our eighth-place finish," DePauw head coach Kori Stoffregen said.

"We are getting better and already can't wait for next year. Noah was very close to individually qualifying, while Paul also had a great all-region finish and Will Bond wrapped up his senior year with an outstanding race. These top three guys have been work horses and I am very proud of their efforts."
