Lady Tiger Cubs win on the road, beat Rockville 44-32

Rockville--Thursday the Lady Tiger Cubs girls varsity basketball traveled to Parke County to face the Rockville Lady Rox. GHS coach Bradley Key's club came home with its ninth win of the season with the 44-32 win.

The first half saw the Greencastle ladies jump out to a first quarter lead of 12-6. The Lady Tiger Cubs started hot from behind the three-point line hitting three of their first five shots.

The second period saw the host Lady Rox score four straight points to pull the score within two at 10-12, but the guest went on a 9-0 run to go 21-10, Greencastle's biggest lead at that point. The half ended with Greencastle out scoring Rockville 6-4 to go into the break with coach Key's squad up by 13, 27-14.

The second half started much like the first as Greencastle went on 7-0 run to go up 34-14.

"It was important to get off to a good run there in the second half. We played well in the open half and saw several girls step up," Key said.

"We played well there in the third quarter. We had several players and extended our lead. We'll take that every time," Key said.

The final quarter saw the host outscore Greencastle 12-7, but it wasn't enough as Greencastle got the 44-32 win.

"I'm very pleased with the win. It's our ninth and it sends us into Saturday's game with Bloomington South on a winning note. It will be a tough game for us, and we'll have to come ready to play.

"Overall I'm pleased," Key said. "We had several girls step up and score tonight. We tried to extend the lead there and though we shot poorly from the field we did hit 16 free throws and that was tonight's difference."

For the game Greencastle hit 12 of 40 from the field for 30 percent shooting. They hit 16 of 27 from the foul line for 59 percent, and had 11 turnovers for the game. Rockville had 19 turnovers, and hit14-42 from the field for 33 percent, and just 4 of 7 free throws for 57 percent.

Greencastle is back in action this Saturday against Bloomington South.
