County Jail

Two people have been booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 6 a.m. Thursday, Chester Thomas Smith, 20, Indianapolis, was charged with battery and criminal recklessness.

* At 10:15 p.m. Thursday, Larry Ray Fox, 45, Greencastle, was arrested on charges of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct, public intoxication and intimidation.

City Police

Two recent property-damage accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police.

* At 12:26 p.m. Thursday, a two-vehicle accident occurred at Indianapolis Road and Percy Julian Drive as Matthew Dickerson, 35, Greencastle, attempted to turn left onto Percy Julian Drive in a 2005 Toyota Prius when he turned in front of an eastbound 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by Emily Williams III, 50, Greencastle.

Dickerson told Assistant Chief Brian Hopkins that he did not realize the left turn arrow had turned red before he entered the intersection.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, a two-vehicle mishap at East Washington resulted in three citations for one driver.

A 2012 Lexus, driven by Brian Pershing, 41, Greencastle, was struck in the rear by a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Gena Rinberger, 31, Greencastle.

Rinberger, who said she conferred with Pershing and was told his vehicle had no damage, left the scene and later ran off the road at Veterans Memorial Highway and Putnamville Street.

Officer Ed Wilson cited her there for a child restraint violation involving a child less than age eight.

At the original accident scene, Rinberger was ticketed by Officer Darrel Bunten for an infraction of driving with a suspended license and for operating without proof of financial responsibility.

Total damage in the mishap was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

Sheriff's Department

Four recent accidents have been investigated by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department recently.

* At 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, Larry D. Harmon, 28, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he struck a pothole and traveled off the road, striking a sign and overturning in a field.

Lt. Donnie Pettit estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 5:01 a.m. Thursday, Zachary A. Swain, 20, Fillmore, was southbound on County Road 675 East in a 2004 Mazda 6 when he lost control of the vehicle due to wintry conditions.

Swain left the roadway and struck an embankment.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500 by Deputy Kyle Gibbons.

* At 5:10 p.m. Thursday, Jeremiah R. Jackson, 27, Greencastle, was westbound in a 2010 Ford Fusion, crossing Percy Julian Drive from Avenue B when his car collided with a vehicle driven by Heather May, 40, Terre Haute, as she was southbound on Percy Julian Drive.

Jackson advised Lt. Dwight Simmons that he was attempting to enter the McDonald's parking lot when he collided with May. He informed Simmons that he failed to see May's vehicle because his view was obstructed by other vehicles stopped at the traffic light.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$5,000.

* At 10:06 p.m. Thursday, Guy M. Marlow, 22, Greencastle, was southbound in a 2009 Mazda CX-9 on County Road 300 East when he failed to negotiate a curve on to County Road 375 North, sliding through the curve and striking a tree with the front right of his vehicle.

Lt. Simmons estimated damage at $1,001-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to one medical assist and numerous dispatches recently.

* At 3 p.m. Wednesday, GFD was called to 12 Cherry Wood Ct. for a malfunctioning smoke detector.

* At 8:05 p.m. Thursday, GFD was dispatched to a structure fire at 4350 E. CR 140 S. GFD assisted the Fillmore Fire Department in extinguishing the residential blaze.

* At 9:47 p.m. Thursday, GFD responded to an alarm at 208 E. Olive St., DePauw Police were on the scene upon GFD arrival.

* At 5:58 a.m. Friday, GFD performed an odor investigation at 401 Longcastle Dr. but upon arrival, Vectren Gas had already arrived on scene to assess the incident.

* At 7:05 p.m. Friday, GFD was called to 1 Taylor Place for a fire alarm triggered by an undetermined cause.
