Friday, April 10, 2015

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will host a regional open house for west-central Indiana Thursday, April 16 in Crawfordsville to collect input on its draft four-year transportation plan.

INDOT invites the public to attend the regional open house 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Ivy Tech Crawfordsville Campus, 2325 Phil Ward Blvd.

The public's assistance is needed by INDOT in identifying projects and improvements that will enhance safety, mobility and economic growth while protecting the environment as part of the transportation plan, otherwise known as the STIP (statewide transportation improvement program).

The draft STIP lists 30 Putnam County projects planned over the four-year period, ranging from the $1,996,619 South Street project on the books for Greencastle to replacement of Bridge 137 over Big Walnut Creek over County Road 100 East and a $1,756,000 resurfacing of U.S. 40 between State Road 75 and U.S. 231, all projected during 2016.

Overall, the planned Putnam County projects total $16,895,370.39. Of that figure, $13,747,597 is via federal funds and $3,147,733 matching dollars.

The project timetable shows $12,691,770 in work planned during 2016, while projects totaling $2,534,600 are on the drawing board for 2017 and $1,669,000 is budgeted for projects in 2019.

No Greencastle or Putnam County projects are listed as planned for 2018.

The open house is an opportunity to meet with INDOT staff in an informal setting where discussion and conversation are encouraged.

Officials will be available to address questions and solicit input on a variety of programs, including planning, project selection, highway safety, local projects and district operations.

The INDOT draft STIP lists all transportation projects considered regionally significant or planned for federal funds between July 2015 and June 2019. The document anticipates the funds available for various transportation modes, including highways, transit and trails.

To use federal funds, a project must be listed or amended into the statewide transportation improvement program.

INDOT's draft STIP is available for public review at the open house and for download at www.in.gov/indot/3132.htm.

The public may submit comments through:

-- The web comment form at www.in.gov/indot/3132.htm.

-- Email addressed to draftstip@indot.in.gov.

-- Postal mail addressed to Michael McNeil, STIP director, 100 N. Senate Ave., IGCN 955, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

Paper comment forms also will be available at the regional open house.

All comments should be submitted or postmarked by Thursday, April 30 so INDOT can collate and respond to comments and questions on the record as part of the final STIP.
