CHS grad Arnold wins HCAC golf championship

KNIGHTSTOWN -- Franklin College senior Chris Arnold recently won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Men's Golf Championship in leading the men's golf team to a third-place finish during the 72-hole tournament.

Arnold became the 10th men's golfer in school history to win medalist honors at the HCAC Championships.

The 2011 Cloverdale High School graduate is the son of Tim and Cheryl Arnold of Quincy.

He carded a 76-stroke score in Sunday's final round to pick up a five-shot victory in the tournament. Arnold held a one-shot lead after three rounds and compiled a 292 score, marking the third best total in HCAC history during the 72-hole tournament format.

Franklin finished in third place with a 1,237 team score. The Grizzlies shot a season-best 298 composite score in the third round on Saturday at the Royal Hylands Golf Club.

Sophomore Jack Knue finished in 16th place individually with a 315 score. He carded three rounds in the 70s, led by a 77-stroke score on Saturday. Knue shot a 78-stroke score in the first and final rounds.

Sophomore Sam Pollock followed closely behind with a 318 composite score to tie for 18th place. Senior Joshua Rhoads carded a 76-stroke score in the third round to tie for 22nd place individually. Sophomore Andrew Behnke shot an 80 during Sunday's final round.

The HCAC Championship concluded the team's 2014-15 season and capped the collegiate careers for Arnold and Rhoads.

Arnold, a public relations major, is slated to take part in Franklin College commencement exercises at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
