A tractor-trailer crosses the new culvert on the reopened stretch of State Road 240 east of Greencastle Thursday morning.

State Road 240 is now open east of Greencastle.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Crawfordsville office announced the reopening on social media on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday evening, barricades were down in the construction zone and construction signs approaching the site remained in place but were no longer blinking. The roadway was open for through traffic.

INDOT announced in May that the road would close near the end of that month for a small structure replacement, remaining closed for two months.

The small structure, a culvert, is immediately east of County Road 725 East, about three miles west of State Road 75.

The work included construction of a new culvert, new asphalt and striping on either side of the culvert and work to the waterway in the vicinity of the state highway.

Kerns Excavating LLC was awarded the $325,970 contract.

The roadway was scheduled to reopen on July 31, putting completion two days ahead of schedule, in spite of the rainiest July on record.
