The Greencastle girls' soccer team knows how to bounce back. The Lady Tiger Cubs looked to be in good shape until recently losing a few games in a row.

But after a tie at Cascade, GHS took it to its WIC divisional rival West Vigo Tuesday with a big 5-1 win.

Team captain Amelia Smith has been able to play the field this season with the keeper position in good hands as Claire Gillen was able to take over the goalie spot.

Gillen had four saves Tuesday against West Vigo, allowing Smith to earn three first-half goals with assists by three different Tiger Cubs.

"This week the Lady Tiger Cubs are continuing to demonstrate positive communication and support for each other on the field," GHS coach Angela Weeks said. "Early possessions and shots from the offensive line gave the team a 4-0 lead at the half. Amelia Smith was able to secure three goals early in the game from assists given by Katie Kessler, Madeline Graham, and Katie Rose Parsons."

Madeline Graham served up another assist before the half, this time to Erin Thomas.

Graham then earned one for herself in the second half and Bailey Lausee assisted her.

West Vigo then snuck one goal in before the end with the game well in hand by Weeks' Tiger Cubs.

At home in the tie against Cascade, Weeks said she was proud of her upperclassmen to hold the line after being up 1-0 at halftime thanks to a goal from Smith.

"The senior leadership and persistence carried the team to the end for the Lady Tiger Cubs," Weeks said. "Our solid midfield action and tight defensive line provided the support needed for the tie. This tie is at a crucial time in our season for both Conference rankings and for pre-Sectional preparation."
