100 Women Who Care support shared by Transformers, Special Olympics
Members of 100 Women Who Care Putnam County recently presented checks to two Putnam County charities -- Putnam County Special Olympics and Transformers.
The double check presentation was the culmination of the group's latest quarterly meeting when in an unprecedented turn of events, the voting resulted in not just one but two tie votes between the Transformers and Putnam County Special Olympics.
To resolve this issue, a special hand vote was held and it was decided to split the total money and award each organization with $4,750. The other nominee was Imagination Library.
"We are passionate about transforming lives in Putnam County -- both of those serving and of those being served," Linda Hunter, representative of Gobin Memorial UMC Transformers, told the group in her acceptance remarks.
"We are committed to the under-resourced in Putnam County, to improve delivery systems of our social services and professional sectors, to reduce the economic impact of poverty, and to help people of generational poverty become freer, more independent, more autonomous, and more likely themselves to become servant leaders."
Putnam County Comprehensive Services representatives were excited to learn that they would have uniforms for next year's Special Olympics games.
The next 100 Women Who Care event is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4 at the Inn at DePauw.
