County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Sara Jane Frazier, 33, Terre Haute, was held at the jail on a pair of Vigo County warrants.

At 1:57 p.m. Nicole (Hendrickson) Chaszar, 31, Kokomo, was arrested for theft and false informing.

* At 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Steven Grant James, 35, Poland, was booked in for probation violation.

At 9:37 p.m. Donnie Dale Sandusky, 43, Cloverdale, was charged with operating while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement.

* At 8 a.m. Wednesday, Joshua Allen Sebastian, 25, Greencastle, was held at the jail for battery and domestic battery.

At 2:32 p.m. Mark Chandler, 56, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail by court order.

* At 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Joseph Montel Osborne II, 20, Greencastle, was arrested for domestic battery.

At 4:25 a.m., three men were booked in on marijuana charges. Samuel E. Dawson, 48, Patricksburg, and Larry G. Farley, 44, Poland, were both charged with dealing marijuana. Morris Froedge, 27, Martinsville, was charged with possession of marijuana.

City Police

A pair of arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 1:10 a.m. Thursday, Nathaniel Finch, 40, Greencastle, was arrested by Reserve Officer Billy Wallace.

Arrested at a North Madison Street residence, Finch was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of domestic battery and interference with the reporting of a crime.

* At 4:52 p.m. Wednesday, Bethany Harmon, 20, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Darrel Bunten.

Arrested at Percy Julian Drive and Avenue F, Harmon was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness and criminal mischief.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to four recent property-damage accidents.

* At 11:50 a.m. on Saturday, Jesse D. Walton, 27, Brydstown, Tenn., was westbound on U.S. 36 in a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban. Hattie E. Lawson, 16, North Salem, was following Walton in a 2012 Ford Explorer.

Walton told Lt. Donnie Pettit he was attempting to turn south onto County Road 875 West when his vehicle was rear-ended.

Lawson said Walton slowed, causing her to brake, but she could not avoid the collision.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

Lt. Dwight Simmons assisted at the scene.

* At 12:55 p.m. on Sunday, Lara J. Scruggs, 50, Moberly, Mo., was southbound on U.S. 231, just south of County Road 900 South, attempting to turn left into Haywood's Garage in a 2008 Suzuki Forenza. Brittany Mendenhall, 27, Greencastle, was northbound in the right turn lane in front of Haywood's in a 2009 Ford F150.

Scruggs told Lt. Pettit the driver of a vehicle in the northbound lane stopped and motioned for her to turn left in front of the vehicle. She said she did not see Mendenhall approaching in the turn lane.

Mendenhall said Scruggs turned in front of her and she could not avoid the collision.

Damage was listed at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Rashawna M. Scamihorn, 21, Reelsville, was northbound on County Road 450 West in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am.

Scamihorn told Capt. Tom Helmer her brakes failed and she lost control rounding a curve. Yaw marks indicated she swerved left before swerving back right and leaving the road on the east side.

The car hit an earthen embankment, causing it to roll on its top.

Scamihorn was able to exit the vehicle via the right rear door. She complained of head pain but signed a medical release with Operation Life.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

Deputy Jake Harrington and Lt. Gregg Slover assisted at the scene.

* At 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Christopher M. Humphries, 26, Coatesville, was southbound on County Road 900 East just south of County Road 1100 North in a 2002 Jaguar X-Type.

Humphries told Deputy Mike Downing his right front tire blew and he lost control, causing his right side tires to go into the ditch.

The driver was able to get back on the roadway, but hit a concrete culvert on the west side of the roadway. The car came to rest about 100 feet south of the culvert.

The car suffered extensive damage to the right front wheel, fender, passenger door and undercarriage.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department assisted with three medical runs and responded to three other dispatches recently.

* At 10:11 a.m. Wednesday, GFD responded to a report of a fire at Heartland Automotive on Warren Drive. A short in a switch box caused the small fire, which was already extinguished upon the fire department's arrival.

* At 12:55 p.m. Thursday, GFD extinguished a small leaf fire near the intersection of Avenue E and Fifth Street.
