The Putnam County Extension Advisory Council invites all residents to its annual meeting at the Inn at DePauw on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under. The meal will be a dinner served by the staff of the Inn at DePauw. Contact the Extension office staff (info below) for any special dietary or other accommodations.

Fred Whitford of the Purdue Pesticide Program will be the featured speaker for the evening.

In his role, Fred provides presentations and educational outreach to both private and commercial pesticide applicators. Fred is very comical and entertaining while being very astute in presenting his point to bring about behavior change in his audience. Much of his work has involved safety from both a personal and environmental perspective.

Additionally beyond the work of the pesticide program, Fred has authored several books highlighting significant historical people and features of Indiana agriculture. These include "The Grand Old Man," a biography of William Carroll Latta; "The Queen of American Agriculture," a biography of Virginia Claypool Meredith; and most recently "For the Good of the Farmer," a biography of John Harrison Skinner, dean of Purdue Agriculture.

Recent awards include the Honorary Master Farmer sponsored by Indiana Prairie Farmer and Purdue University and the Frederick L. Hovde Award of Excellence in Educational Service to Rural People of Indiana sponsored by Indiana Farm Bureau.

A very short business meeting will also occur for Extension Board elections. The nominating committee is accepting nominations and anyone interested in running for the Extension Board is encouraged to call the Extension office 653-8411 and ask for Mark Evans for more information.

An RSVP by noon, Monday, Nov. 16 is necessary for the meal count to be obtained. Tickets are available from any Extension Board member or the Purdue Extension Putnam County Office. Note the Extension Office is located at 12 Central Square (street address 152 E. Columbia St.) in the Pershing Accounting and PNC Bank Building.
