PLAINFIELD -- Rep. Todd Rokita (R-4th District), chairman of the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, led a collaborative discussion Friday with local schools, community leaders, first responders, and industry leaders on how schools can utilize cutting-edge safety technology to facilitate a productive and safe learning environment.

"I have visited over 30 schools during the last few years where we discussed school safety," Rokita said. "I have also studied school safety technology with the security industry and best practices with law enforcement. One of the things I learned is that those groups were not always talking with each other. Today's event is meant to reverse that.

"I thank everyone for participating today and for their commitment to ensuring our children receive a quality education in a safe environment," he added. "I look forward to exploring ways to put this discussion into action," said Rep. Rokita.

Congressman Rokita and his team hosted the event along with the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield. Brownsburg Police Chief Michael Dove delivered the keynote address. More than 70 Hoosiers participated in the event including Indiana state representatives, safety professionals, law enforcement officers and school board members.
