PUTNAMVILLE -- Troopers from the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post were kept busy Thursday with multiple weather-related crashes reported.

A jackknifed semi at 30-mile marker eastbound of Interstate 70 in Putnam County closed the roadway Tuesday morning.

The incidents occurred mainly between the hours of 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. with four of the crashes involving jackknifed semis along Interstate 70 in Putnam and Clay counties.

One jackknifed semi, occurring at the 30-mile marker, shut down both lanes of eastbound I-70 about 9:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Authorities noted that I-70 was closed intermittently for removal of crashed vehicles.

Overall, Troopers responded to two minor personal-injury accidents; 12 property-damage crashes and six slide-offs, all related to snowy/icy roadways.

The overwhelming majority of the crashes involved drivers driving too fast for conditions, State Police officials said.

The majority of the crashes occurred on I-70 in Putnam and Clay counties, but troopers also responded to crashes in Vigo and Sullivan counties along county and state roads.

One crash on Sanford Road, just west of State Road 63 in northwestern Vigo County, involved a 26-year-old pregnant female who lost control and rolled her vehicle. She was wearing a seatbelt and received no injuries, but was transported to the hospital for a routine check.
