Cornerstone Baptist to host informational program on heroin addiction

Thursday, January 21, 2016

Cornerstone Baptist Church is inviting the public to the Awareness, Education and Recovery event at 3 p.m. Saturday at the church, 218 S. Bloomington St.

The informational event will focus on the heroin epidemic that has taken root in Indiana.

The idea is to come together to help save our loved ones, support one another and make a better future for our children and grandchildren.

The event will help spread awareness of what is going on in Putnam County and in the state, with a goal of helping to educate, give support and come together as a community.

Christopher Albert of Indiana Recovery Alliance will be giving training on naloxone from 3-4 p.m. The drug is used as an antidote in the case of an opiate overdose. Albert will also speak about harm reduction and how it is saving lives.

The time from 4-6 p.m. will feature a number of guest speakers.

Rena Carrillo will tell her story of 15 years of addiction. Kathleen Bates from the Indiana Coalition for Prevention and Treatment will speak. Janice Walcker will discuss babies born addicted to opiates.

Finally, Pastor Dave Neeley will close with a few words and prayer.
