Rich gives back with Have-a-Heart
For Cloverdale businessman Jeff Rich, organizing a community fundraiser is truly close to his heart.
Rich, who survived a serious heart attack in December 2014, is putting his heart and soul into continuing a community-organized program known as the "Have-a-Heart" fundraiser. It was begun last year to aid Rich after his heart incident sapped both his strength and his financial resources.
This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds, and Rich is looking for similar support from the community.
"Last year when the community came together in my support after experiencing a heart attack," Rich said. "I made it my mission to carry on the event to help in making 'heart health' household words."
That community support even carried over to the Putnam County Fair where Rich has provided his services as auctioneer for the fundraising purse auction during Ladies Day (now Family Fun Day). This past year the tables were turned on him and a special purse with gift cards and notes and well wishes galore was created in his honor.
Rich said the "Have-a-Heart" event is designed to raise funds not only to assist those who may have experienced a heart event themselves but to also help the community become more aware of heart health as a goal.
There are several ways to get involved in the effort, Rich suggests.
A person, business or organization can donate an item for the silent auction, which will run throughout the day of the event. Or an individual, business or group can sponsor an event during the day and have their business name or group name mentioned throughout the event.
Of course, monetary donations are always appreciated and will be utilized in fulfilling the goals of the program, Rich assured.
An account has been established at First National Bank, and donations may be dropped off there or can be mailed to: Have-a-Heart, Attn: Jeff Rich, P.O. Box 340, Cloverdale, IN 46120.
More specifics about the event schedule will be announced later.
