Cougars fall at Edgewood

ELLETTSVILLE -- The North Putnam baseball and softball teams will face some strong opponents this week and will end the week at the County Tournament on Saturday.

The Cougar baseball team fell Tuesday 7-2 at Edgewood and the softball team also fell to the Mustangs 15-5.

North Putnam coach Brian Jeter his baseball team uncharacteristically made seven errors in the WIC East matchup and had that not occurred NPHS would have had a good chance to take the victory. The Mustangs only scored two earned runs.

"We beat ourselves tonight," Jeter said. "We had two errors in the bottom of the first and I think we had an error every inning. Take away the errors and I don't think we lose. That's not something that we've been prone to at all. Not to take away from Edgewood who had a decent pitcher we just committed a lot of errors."

Kyler Jeter got the team started off right with a homer in the first inning and Duke Duff recorded an RBI when he knocked in Trae Straziscar.

North Putnam will have another crack at the Mustangs Wednesday but unfortunately for Cougar fans, in the WIC. It's the first game of a division matchup that counts toward the conference title with the second one played like an exhibition game.

The Cougar softball team saw some decent scoring but a late run by Edgewood put the Mustangs ahead for good.

North Putnam recorded seven hits with Mia Runnels recording a triple, Jada Stump earning two singles, and Chloe LaPierre and Bronwyn Spencer both netting one single. Each of the four scored RBIs. The Lady Cougars will also play at Edgewood Wednesday.
