Featured Athlete of the Week: North Putnam's Reilly Tucker
Reilly Tucker is a senior pitcher for the North Putnam softball team. She was injured earlier this season and will be unable to play in the sectional.
Banner Graphic: What was your injury and how did you do it?
RT: It was during the Brown County game two weeks ago. I was running home on a passed ball, I slid, and my cleat must have gotten caught on something. My fibia just popped, and I got a hairline fracture.
BG: How tough is it to not be able to play the end of your senior year?
RT: It's very emotional. We are all very close on the team, and there has been no drama this year. That's pretty rare, and that's been very good. We all get along and we love each other. I love this team.
BG: How had the season gone before the injury?
RT: Things have gone pretty well. We had a solid infield. The outfield struggled a little bit, but we did really well this year.
BG: What stands out as a big moment in your softball career?
RT: My favorite memory was probaly beating Cloverdale last year in the county, and beating Greencastle in our first game this year. That was a really great win.
BG: What is something you have learned from softball that you can use in the rest of your life?
RT: Teamwork. Just learning how to work together, and to help bring people back up if they make a mistake. That's really important.
BG: In what other sports have you been involved?
RT: I used to cheer, but that's about it.
BG: What else do you like to do besides play softball?
RT: I have done 4-H for 10 years. I used to do scrapbooking and latchhook, but I just do photography now. I like to take pictures of any random thing that I think looks good. I made it to the State Fair one year, when I was in fifth grade.
BG: What are your plans after graduation?
RT: I am going to IUPUI to study neuroscience, focusing on the brain and spinal cord. I plan to be a doctor.
