Herbert 'Herb' Fischer Jr.

Herbert "Herb" Fischer Jr., 84, of Barnard, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 at his residence.

He was born on May 27, 1932 in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late Herbert and Eva (Briggs) Fischer Sr.

On Feb. 16, 1961, in Tazewell, Tenn., Herb married his wife of more than 54 years, Bonnie (Sizemore) Fischer. Mrs. Fischer survives.

Herb graduated with the Class of 1950 in Holland, N.Y., after which he joined the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served our country.

After returning home, Herb began working for Mobil Oil, where he started driving trucks but worked his way up to become plant manager in Lebanon, Ohio, Clermont, Ind., and then regional superintendent.

He enjoyed raising cattle, fishing, camping, working hard and spending time with his family.

Herb was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Origin of the Shriners, Warren County Sheriff's Department deputy, assistant fire chief of Turtle Creek Township and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Fischer, Barnard; three children, Catherine (Toby) Knowling, Roachdale, Michael (Meshelle) Fischer, North Salem, Robert Andrew (Anita) Fischer, Barnard, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Elizabeth Fischer-Steele, Mt. Dora, Fla., Gregory Jean Fischer, Sevierville, Tenn., and Donald Fischer, Chaffee, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two children; Rita Fischer-Tinch, Patrick Joseph Fischer, grandson, Derek Knowling, and brother, Roger Fischer.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7 at Servies and Morgan Funeral Home, 102 E. Washington St., Roachdale, with Pastor Tom Walker and Pastor Ronnie Sizemore officiating.

Burial will follow at Roachdale Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps, and the Roachdale Military Rites Team.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6 at the funeral home with a Masonic Rites service at 7:30 p.m.
