South Putnam to commence new school year first Friday in August

The South Putnam Community School Corporation will open its 2016-17 school year on Friday, Aug. 5 for kindergarten through grade 12.

All kindergarten students must be five years old on or before Aug. 1 in order to be eligible for enrollment.

Students will be in attendance all day on Aug. 5 with lunch served. New students will need a copy of their birth certificates and immunization records. Proof of legal guardianship may be required.

Student enrollment and book rental:

* Central Elementary: Thursday, July 28 from noon to 7 p.m.; Friday, July 29 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

* Fillmore Elementary: Thursday, July 28 from noon to 7 p.m.; Friday, July 29 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

* Middle and high schools: The computer lab will be open for registration beginning Monday, July 18 from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. (closed between noon and 1 p.m.)

Elementary school enrollees may also use both the middle school and high school computer labs. Technology staff will be present for assistance.

All registration must be completed by Friday, July 29 at 3 p.m.

This year South Putnam is introducing Harmony 3 Family Access. Usernames given in previous years will not work this year. Registrants will receive an email prior to Monday, July 18 with student registration codes included.

Harmony 3 Family Access also allows families to set up one account and view the data for all of their students. If a family has multiple students, a registration code will be received for each student.

All mandatory state and corporation forms are included in the online registration. Additionally, parents may access optional forms that can be printed and returned to the school.

The district maintains the opinion that parents should make every effort to register during the days listed above. If this is not possible, please contact the appropriate school to make arrangements. Parents who are unable to pay book-rental fees during the scheduled time periods should contact their building's principal prior to the first day of school to make arrangements for payment.

Principals will be in their offices from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. daily beginning Thursday, July 21.

For parents who may qualify for free and reduced lunches and textbooks, applications are available on the school's website or can be picked up at the middle and high schools. To save time during the registration process, parents are encouraged to download the application and return it in advance to the middle and high schools.

South Putnam middle and high school student-schedules and book fees will be available online beginning the week of July 18. Students with schedule conflicts or questions should contact the high school office at 653-3148 to schedule an appointment with a guidance counselor.

Starting Monday, July 18, when online registration is completed, students can come into the computer lab to purchase parking passes for $5 each. Parking forms will have to be completed prior to receiving a tag. Athletic passes will also be available for purchase.
