Sheriff's Department

Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to one recent property-damage accident.

* At 3:35 p.m. on Thursday, Lonnie J. Pelfrey, 46, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 150 West in a 2001 Jeep Cherokee when he hit a deer.

Capt. Tom Helmer, assisted by Indiana Conservation Officer Chris Springstun, investigated the crash, estimating damage at $1,001-$2,500.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

City Police

One recent citation was issued by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 9:40 Thursday, Kandice Shalayev, 31, Greencastle, was cited by Reserve Officer Billy Wallace following a traffic stop.

Shalayev was stopped on Indianapolis Road and cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended operator's license.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to six dispatches and three medical assists.

* At 4:37 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 609 S. Locust St. However, no problem was found. GFD subsequently reset the alarm and returned to station at 4:49 p.m.

* At 9:09 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 106 S. Spring St. The alarm was determined to have malfunctioned, prompting GFD to reset the alert system and return to station at 9:17 p.m.

* At 5:49 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 98 N. 10th St. A sprinkler riser had malfunctioned, causing the alarm to trip. GFD subsequently reset the alarm and returned to station at 6:22 a.m.

* At 12:33 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD performed a citizen's assist at 112 S. Madison St. GFD returned to station at 12:53 p.m.

* At 3:17 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD assisted the Bellmore Fire Department in the control and cleanup of a scene involving a motor-vehicle accident on U.S. 36 east of Bellmore on the bridge spanning Raccoon Lake. A tractor and dump truck collided, resulting in two persons being airlifted from the scene. GFD returned to station at 6:59 p.m.

* At 5:08 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 102 W. Poplar St. but was disregarded en route. GFD returned to station at 5:10 p.m.
