County Jail

Four people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Thursday.

* At 6:18 p.m. James Ralph Tutro, 40, Greenfield, was housed at the jail on out-of-county warrants.

* At 11:28 a.m. Michelle Suzanne Hilbert, 33, Cloverdale, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

* At 11:24 a.m. Jerod Alan Gruenholz, 42, Plainfield, was booked in on a local warrant.

* At 9:16 a.m. Dwight Sargent, 41, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

City Police

Four recent property-damage accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 5:35 p.m. Wednesday, a one-vehicle mishap was reported on the Burger King lot at 66 Putnam Plaza.

Stanley Gardner, 69, Greencastle, told Officer Josh Smith that he was pulling his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado into the drive-through lane when he decided to go inside instead.

His truck pulled suddenly to the left and struck a light pole, Gardner said, causing the light fixture to fall off the pole, narrowly missing his truck.

Total damage in the mishap was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 3:32 p.m. Wednesday, a two-vehicle accident was reported at Veterans Memorial Highway and 10th Street as David Ritter, 20, Bainbridge, attempted to cross the highway in a 2013 Ford Fiesta.

He told Reserve Office Billy Wallace that he did not see a 1988 Cadillac driven by Elizabeth McKee, 87, Greencastle, and collided with the driver's side of the McKee car.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

Ritter was ticketed for having an expired license plate and was cited for operating without financial responsibility.

* At 12:44 p.m. Wednesday, a two-vehicle mishap occurred at Indiana and Washington streets as Lori Winings, 47, Cloverdale, attempted to back from a parking space and backed into another vehicle stopped for a red light.

Lacey Laney, 27, Cloverdale, was stopped for a red light in a 2009 Jeep Patriot when the vehicle was struck by the Winings Equinox.

Reserve Officer Wallace listed total damage at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 7:38 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, a one-vehicle mishap was reported on the Walmart store parking lot.

Officer Smith reported the Melaney Couch, 44, Roachdale, was eastbound in front of the store in a 2008 Dodge Charger when her attention was reportedly diverted by a semi cutting in front of her car to exit the parking lot.

As that occurred, Couch did not see a fire hydrant and concrete barrier around a light pole and her car struck them, resulting in an estimated $1,000-$2,500 damage.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County Sheriff's deputies responded to a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

* At 1:07 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, Courtney A. Miller, 38, Greencastle, was eastbound on Indiana 240 passing County Road 900 East in a 2013 Volkswagen Passat. Heather R. Sell, 31, Greencastle, was also eastbound in a 2003 Dodge Ram.

Miller told Deputy Virgil Lanning she saw a refrigerator door fall from Sell's vehicle and could not avoid hitting the door.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 3:19 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, James Anderson, 44, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 325 West in a 1995 Jeep Cherokee.

Anderson told Deputy Lanning that due to a steering problem he left the right side of the road and hit a ditch, an embankment, a fence and landscaping before coming to rest in a driveway.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six recent dispatches.

* At 9:55 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 311 S. Locust St. A cleaning company was spraying for mold in the basement of the facility and accidentally set off the alarm during the spraying process. GFD subsequently reset the alarm and returned to station.

* At 7:40 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm but was disregarded en route to 1542 Bloomington St.

* At 7:41 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 807 S. College Ave.

* At 1:26 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to reports of an oven fire at 19 Highland St. The flames had already been extinguished upon arrival. GFD used a fan to clear light smoke from the residence before returning to station.

* At 4:58 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm but was canceled en route to 500 Linwood Dr.

* At 8:54 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a motor-vehicle accident at the intersection of Percy Julian Drive and Veterans Memorial Highway. GFD assisted Operation Life with patient care and removed fluids from the roadway.
