Cloverdale (3-3, 3-0) at Owen Valley (2-4, 2-1)

Game time: 7 p.m.

The coaches: Tony Meyer is in his second year at Cloverdale. Duane Potts is in his 15th year at Owen Valley.

Last week: Cloverdale defeated Brown County 19-11, while Owen Valley won 21-10 at Cascade.

History: Owen Valley has won the last 18 meetings, including a 48-0 victory last year.

WIC impact: The Clovers are still tied for first in the East Division, and clinch at least second place with a win.

Key players: Versatile Nick Winders of Cloverdale scored all three of his team’s touchdowns last week, one on a pass reception, one on a run and one on an interception return. Quarterback Tyce Jackson was the team’s leading rusher.

Coach Tony Meyer on his team: “We’ve had good practices so far this week. We threw the same exact number of passes last week as against North Putnam [the week before], but it was more evident that we had a passing game because we caught the ball. Tyce probably should have been about 16 for 21. We are getting more confident with the passing game. The big schools are going to load the box. We are going to see a little bit of that this week, and if they do then we’ll pass. Either way we are prepared.”

Coach Tony Meyer on the Patriots: “They are big and strong. The battle against them is dealing with the line. They outsize us, and are stronger than us. They can make running difficult. Their QB is very good. We have seen on film they run more against small schools, and pass more against big schools. If we have them passing, I’ll take my chances. Their record is not indicative of the quality of their team. I view them up there with Greencastle, North Putnam and Indian Creek.”

Northview (4-2, 2-1) at Greencastle (5-1, 2-1)

Game time: 7 p.m.

Media coverage: The game will be telecast on wabashvalleysports.com and broadcast on WREB-FM 94.3

The coaches: The coaches: Mark Raetz is in his fourth year at Northview. Mike Meyer is in his seventh year at Greencastle.

Last week: Greencastle lost 56-7 at Sullivan, while Northview won 34-13 against North Putnam.

History: Northview won 62-7 in Brazil last year. The teams had not played since 1996 before then.

WIC impact: The teams are tied for second place in the West Division with one more WIC game to play next week.

Key players: Running back Devin Clar of Greencastle ranks 14th in the state averaging 157.8 yards per game. He has scored 12 touchdowns.

Northview’s Dylan Hyatt averages 106.8 yards per game and has scored six touchdowns. MJ Shelton averages 90 yards per game and has scored six touchdowns.

Coach Meyer on his team: “The guys have bounced back well from Sullivan. This week has gone well and we’ve had a good week of practice. Sullivan’s passing game was very good, but we did not play very well at all. We didn’t get off the bus. That’s not to take anything away from Sullivan, though. Their QB and other players are very good players. We were not very good.”

Coach Meyer on Northview: “We are coming back to a play another good football team. They have a couple of good skill kids, and some good-sized lineman. Hyatt is a very good running back. He does a lot of things for him. They are solid, and have a good defense [they have only allowed 77 points in six games]. We have to play a heckuva lot better than last week, and I think we can.”

West Vigo (4-2, 1-2) at North Putnam (4-2, 1-2)

Game time: 7 p.m.

Media coverage: The game will be broadcast on WGRE-FM 91.5.

The coaches: Greg Barrett (a 1991 West Vigo graduate) is in his eighth year at North Putnam. Jeff Cobb is in his 12th year at West Vigo.

Last week: North Putnam lost 34-13 at Northview, while West Vigo won 33-21 at South Putnam.

History: This is the first-ever meeting between the schools in football.

WIC impact: The teams are currently tied for fourth place in the West Division.

Coach Barrett on his team: “We’ve not been blocking well up front. Our offensive and defensive line play has to get better. We have gotten better this week, now we have to put it together [tonight]. We have great kids up front, they work hard, and they are smart. Defensively we have to play assignment football. We have to be aligned right and know our assignments. If we do that, we have a chance to win. If we play like we have the last couple weeks, it’s going to be a struggle.”

Coach Barrett on West Vigo: “They are good. Two good running backs [Clayton Noblitt and Jarrett McCallister] who are quick and shifty. Their offensive line makes good penetration, does a good job of moving the line. They are going to be in the box pretty tight. We have to be physical up front. We have our work cut out for us. We are glad to be at home.”

Coach Barrett on coaching against his alma mater: “It’s exciting to play them, just like last week was exciting to play Northview for the first time. I understand West Vigo really well. I played football with some of their dads, and a lot of their dads played for my dad [Hall of Famer Jay Barrett].”

South Putnam (3-3, 0-3) at Sullivan (5-1, 3-0)

Game time: 7 p.m.

Media coverage: The game will be broadcast on WNDI-FM 95.3.

The coaches: Nathan Aker is in his third year at South Putnam. Trent Olson is in his 10th year at Sullivan.

Last week: South Putnam lost 33-21 at home to West Vigo, while Sullivan defeated Greencastle 56-7.

History: Sullivan won 42-34 last year at South Putnam in the only meeting between the teams.

WIC impact: Sullivan leads the West Division with a 3-0 record, and South Putnam is in sixth place at 0-3.

Key players: Sullian’s Trey Powell is the fourth-leading passer in the state, averaging 291.3 yards per game. He has thrown 22 touchdown passes with three interceptions.

Sullivan receiver Dakota Caton is the state’s leading receiver with 140.2 yards per game. He is 27th in the state with 14 touchdowns.

South Putnam’s Kyle Shaffer is 19th in the state with 14 touchdowns, and ranks ninth in rushing with 174.8 yards per game.

Coach Aker on his team: “We’ve had a good week of preparation coming off of a very hard-fought game last week. I feel like we have made some improvement this week during practice. Our team attitude has been great. If we are patient and stick to the process while making the strides that we did last week, I believe that we will be able to experience continued success.”

Coach Aker on Sullivan: “Our West Division is full of great competition. Each week we get the opportunity to play against outstanding competition. Sullivan has an outstanding football team this year. They like to spread it out and throw the ball to multiple receivers. This will be by far the best passing team that we have seen, which will help us improve as we get closer to tournament time.”
