Hunt, Longthorne get honors
Senior quarterback Matt Hunt and senior linebacker Will Longthorne were named to the D3football.com Team of the Week following their performance in DePauw’s 37-34 win over Wabash on Saturday in the 123rd Monon Bell game.
If the Monon Bell wasn’t enough, Hunt was also named the NCAC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Hunt accounted for all five of DePauw’s touchdowns and totaled 400 yards of offense — the most by any DePauw player in a Monon Bell game as DePauw brought home the bell after a seven-year losing streak. His 159 rushing yards were the most by a DePauw quarterback in the Bell game and fourth-best Monon Bell rushing game by a DePauw individual.
Hunt completed 19-of-35 pass attempts for 241 yards and two touchdowns.
Hunt sealed the victory with a 13-yard touchdown pass to his younger brother Andy with just 38 seconds remaining in the game. Matt also rushed 22 times for 159 yards, which included touchdowns on plays of four, 51 and 50 yards.
Longthorne was in on 10 total tackles (eight solo). He also blocked a field goal attempt in the first half that preserved a 17-10 DePauw lead and ended up being the difference in the 37-34 win.
DePauw finished its season at 8-2.
