North Putnam superintendent Dan Noel to retire
BAINBRIDGE — It was announced Wednesday during the North Putnam school board’s regular public session that Superintendent Dan Noel will be retiring on Jan. 30, 2017.
Board attorney Gene Hostetter took some time Wednesday to explain how the search for a new superintendent will take place.
“I’ve contacted the Indiana School Board Association (ISBA), and part of (our annual dues) include consultations about searches,” Hostetter said. “I talked to a gentleman by the name of Michael Adamson who said that he will send out manuals to the board members Thursday (Nov. 17).
“If they do the search itself, he said that they are very competitive … and that an average search costs less than $2,000,” Hostetter continued. “He will then come out and meet with the board, talk about the process, develop an application and assist with that — and that application form would then be (distributed) to various institutions including the Department of Education and so forth.”
Hostetter expounded on the level of involvement ISBA has in the process.
“He said (ISBA) can receive the applications but they don’t make the selection,” Hostetter said. “They don’t narrow it down; they do try to give you applications based on what we’ve told them we’re looking for; what applications are most responsive to those you’ve requested; and they will schedule interviews and prepare questions for (the board).
“Clearly, other organizations that do this — I think all of the major universities go through this process — and it could be a good start at least about what’s coming.”
The next regularly scheduled public session for the North Putnam School Corporation will take place on Monday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. inside the district’s administration offices located at 300 N. Washington St. in Bainbridge.
