‘Operation: Safe Ride’ lifts spirits, safety for New Year’s partiers
With the end of 2016 rapidly approaching, it is again time to begin preparations for parties, outings and celebrations around the city.
With this in mind, some local business owners are renewing efforts to rev up safety through a program that is set to see its third consecutive year of making safe the streets of Greencastle.
The three-pronged partnership of business owners includes Moore’s Bar owners Jay and Jackie Hopkins; Eddie, Amy, Darrel and Jill Felling of Felling Law Office; and A Cab owner David Evens.
This trio of businesses are once again teaming together to ensure that all of Moore’s Bar patrons will be able to have a safe and happy holiday on the notoriously dangerous night of New Year’s Eve by offering free cab rides both to and from Moore’s Bar.
“We see it as a way to give back to our community and to our patrons,” Moore’s Bar owner Jackie Hopkins said. “I don’t believe we had any DUIs around the area (New Year’s Eve) night last year.
“I spoke with Sheriff Scott Stockton after we did it -- he said he didn’t know when the last time was that they recorded (zero) DUIs on New Year’s Eve.”
The program, dubbed Operation: Safe Ride, will begin delivering patrons to Moore’s Bar as early as 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31 and is set to run until closing.
Reservations to be taken to the bar are required and can be made by contacting Evens at A Cab at 720-4050. Reservations for tables at Moore’s Bar can also be made by calling 653-9939.
A total of three A Cab taxis will be designated for the program and will be operating throughout the evening. While reservations are required for arrivals, departures throughout the evening will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
