REPORT: DePauw a possible landing place for Colts camp

Monday, January 23, 2017

INDIANAPOLIS — According to media reports, the Indianapolis Colts are considering changing training camp sites, including a possible move to DePauw University in Greencastle.

In a story posted early Monday afternoon, Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star reports, “the  Colts are weighing their options, including a possible move to DePauw University in Greencastle.”

The story cites Colts Chief Operating Officer Pete Ward as confirming the information.

Another possibility includes camp at the team’s Indianapolis training facility, the Star report continues, “but that decision would come with many challenges, particularly accommodating fans.”

A DePauw spokesman told the Banner Graphic on Monday afternoon that it was too early to comment on anything regarding the Colts.

The Colts have had training camp at Anderson University since 2010.

A DePauw move would not be the team’s first foray into West Central Indiana, as the Colts’ training camp was housed at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for 11 years prior to the move to Anderson.

DePauw was under consideration as a training camp site for the team once previously, losing out to Rose-Hulman. One factor now working in the university’s favor are recently-upgraded athletic fields and facilities.

Colts training camp was originally housed at Anderson from the team’s move to Indianapolis in 1984 through the 1998 preseason.

Story will be updated when more details become available.
