Putnam Retired Teachers offering college scholarships

The Putnam County Retired Teachers Association will award a $500 scholarship to a third- or fourth-year college student who aspires to become a future educator.

The recipient must be a Putnam County high school graduate and an Indiana college/university student enrolled in an undergraduate program which will result in a degree in education.

Interested students must submit a letter of application which includes the applicant’s name, current address, name of high school and year of graduation. In addition, there must be a brief (1-2 pages) description of personal interests and activities, experiences in a supervisory capacity with children or adults, and aspirations and progress toward a career as an educator.

Applicants must also include: A letter of recommendation from a Putnam County high school teacher (not a relative), a letter of recommendation from the college/university verifying the applicant’s current enrollment and academic status, a scholastic transcript from the college/university, and other information that the applicant feels is pertinent.

The deadline is April 1.

The Indiana Retired Teachers Foundation State Scholarship Committee offers an opportunity for upcoming juniors or seniors who have a relative who is a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.

Applications must be enrolled in an education program at any of Indiana’s colleges or universities to apply for a $2,000 scholarship for the 2017-18 school year. To find out what IRTA district you live in, check the website www.retiredteachers.org and go to the IRT Foundation tab. You will find the association’s district map and the online application material under that tab.
