After a lengthy search for Dawn Puckett’s replacement as superintendent, the Greencastle Community School Corporation’s board realized it had its future chief administrator already in its midst.

Jeffrey Hubble, who was initially named interim superintendent at the time of Puckett’s retirement in August 2016, was officially approved Monday via special meeting as the district’s new superintendent.

Hubble served as assistant superintendent to Puckett for several years and is a long-time educator himself, maintaining various positions (including both teaching and administrating) for more than 20 years.

Now, as he begins his 40-month contract at the helm of Greencastle’s public school system, Hubble looks forward to his continued work with the district.

“I appreciate the great faith the board has shown in me, both in the interim position and now,” Hubble said upon approval. “We have many years to do great things at Greencastle Community Schools.”

The five-member board is led by President Denise Sigworth, whose comments echoed those made by Hubble.

“Thank you for all of your patience; thank you for your faith in the board and thank you for all you’ve done in the interim process,” Sigworth said. “We look forward to serving together with you in the future.”

Hubble’s contract, which marks the end of the board’s seven-month search, is effective March 1 and will run through June 30, 2020, at which time his contract will either be extended, renegotiated or allowed to end.

As of July 1, Hubble’s annual base salary will begin at $120,627 in the event he receives either an “effective” or “highly effective” rating by that date, at which time the 2016-17 fiscal year will end and the 2017-18 fiscal year will commence. As with all Greencastle administrators, his salary is subject to increase if effective or highly-effective ratings are maintained.

For his services between Feb. 1 and June 30 (with Feb. 1 being the time when the tag “interim” was dropped), Hubble will receive $41,755.50, roughly one-third of his annual salary which will commence July 1.

So far, Hubble has overseen the successful implementation of multiple projects, most notably lighting systems for multiple district buildings (cutting electricity expenses by 62 percent district-wide), a new sound system for the high school’s McAnally Center (while saving money/time by keeping the old system intact in the event a lesser sound system is needed) and three replacement school buses.
