Banner Graphic: How long have you been playing softball?

Regan Keller: “I have been playing since I was about five. I love that I get to be competitive and passionate about something. My dad [former Greencastle coach Dave Keller] has been a big part of my life in this sport, and I hope I get to play in college.”

BG: What is it like being the only senior on the softball team?

RK: “I get treated the same as the other players, which is very good. I don’t like being treated differently. I get to be the same as everyone else, and not that I’m the one who is supposed to know everything. We only have two juniors, and the rest are freshmen and sophomores.”

BG: How has this season gone for you so far?

RK: “We have had our ups and downs. Coach started moving people around, and we have found the best positions for everyone. I was playing shortstop, but now I’m in the outfield. I’ve played the outfield most of my life, and I’m more comfortable out th ere. I like it better. We are starting to play as a team, and a lot of us haven’t played together before.”

BG: Do you have any special skills?

RK: “A lot of people don’t know, but I can juggle. I had a softball hitting coach one time who had us to juggle to work on our hand-eye coordination, and it really helped.”

BG: Do you have any pets?

RK: “My dad has a dog named Roscoe, and he’s a black lab/pitbull mix. My dog is Moose, a black lab/border collie/German Shepherd mix. He’s eight months old, and he’s a ball of fire.”

BG: Talk about your experience at South Putnam.

RK: “I moved here from Greencastle at the beginning of my junior year, and at first I was kind of the ‘new girl’ but I quickly made a lot of friends. They helped me through the transition. Several teachers have helped me both in classes and to understand things in life. Coach Steffy has done a great job with that in the few months I’ve known him.”

BG: What other activities do you do besides softball?

RK: “I do a lot of homework. Sometimes I help my dad give softball lessons to younger players. I recently finished ‘13 Reasons Why’, and I’m obsessed with that. I like ‘Forrest Gump’, and I like a different genres of music. I might go from country to rap to Disney. You just never know.”

BG: What are your future plans?

RK: “I have applied to Indiana State , IUPUI, and some art schools. I’m waiting to hear back from them. I want to be an interior designer. I have always had an eye for creativity.”
