Greencastle got a best-ever score of 39 from freshman Conner Taylor to defeat Terre Haute South 167-174 on Monday in boys’ high school golf action at Windy Hill.

Terre Haute South’s Jake English was the medalist with a 37, but the Tiger Cubs had the next three best scores to pull off the victory.

Jaxon Parmley had a 40 for Greencastle, while Jake Bennett added a 41, Brett Sosebee had a 47, Kyle Tesmer had a 49 and Blaise Hasty added a 51.

“Consistent scoring by the Tiger Cubs proved to be too much as the Cubs scored a very good victory,” coach Steven Paquin said. “This was Conner’s best score as a varsity player and is very capable of this kind of scoring as a ninth-grader. Jaxon had a very good round also, with good putting and chipping throughout.”

Paquin noted that Bennett, who has led the team in most rounds this season, had an out-of-bounds shot that contributed to his score of 41.

“This was a big win for our confidence to play and beat a team such as the Braves,” Paquin noted.

• __Cloverdale 189, North Putnam 234_ – At Clover Meadows, the Clovers got a 42 from Drew Boyette to win medalist honors and help record the victory.

Zach Nichols added a 46 for the Clovers, while Jason Miller had a 48, Zarek Wellington had a 53, Tyler Harrison had a 61 and Wyatt Helterbrand added a 68.

North Putnam was led by Peyton Myers with a 50.

“Drew played a pretty solid round,” Cloverdale coach Doug Wokoun said. “He had one stretch that was a little painful, but overall played well. Zach also had a stretch of tough luck, but also played well at times. Jason Miller continues to improve and bring his score down.”

Wokoun thought Wellington and Harrison each did good things and fixed some problems toward the end of their rounds.

“For us right now, it is all about consistency,” he said. “We have some pretty good stretches, but let a couple of holes ruin an otherwise good effort.

“Until we get the consistency solved and string together a complete round, we will continue to be frustrated.”

Cloverdale (2-2) hosts Greencastle Thursday at Clover Meadows.

Marcus Burdine added a 57 for North Putnam, while Zane Mason had a 59 and R.J. Batchelor shot a 68.

Cougar coach Earl Hall noted that while his team did not win, there were some noteworthy “firsts” for the team.

1. The Cougars bettered their best team score of the year by some 24 strokes. The previous best was 258.

2. For the first time this season, the Cougars had threeplayers in the 50s.

3. Were it not for a one-stroke penalty, Peyton Myers would have had his first round in the 40s.

4. And finally, for the first time this year, a Cougar won their individual match as Peyton Myers managed to outduel his opponent in their head-to-head match.

“There are many things to be excited for and signs of improvement continue to be seen as these young men from North Putnam work hard to measure up to their competition,” Hall said.

Rockville 195, South Putnam 219 – At Rockville, South Putnam’s Tyler Hicks was the medalist with a 45 but the Rox showed greater depth in picking up the win.

Jared Seidler added a 56 for the Eagles, while Justin Pitts shot a 58 and Ryan Neumann added a 60.
