CUNOT -- An elderly Owen County man reportedly fired two shots at an intruder who tried to break into his home in northwestern Owen County early Sunday morning, authorities said.

The report of a home invasion in the 6000 block of Cunot-Cataract Road, southwest of Cloverdale, was received by Owen County Dispatch about 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

The 82-year-old homeowner, who was the only person home at the time of the incident, reportedly fired two shots at the suspect, police said.

The intruder, however, was not hit, authorities said, as the two men reportedly struggled and the suspect escaped.

The elderly homeowner was not seriously injured in the incident, police said.

All the doors to the home were reportedly locked, but the suspect was able to get into the house by removing a window air conditioner, Owen County deputies said.
