Marjorie Marie Peeler, 91, of Greencastle passed away Thursday night, July 20, 2017 at her apartment at Asbury Towers.

Marj was born in Indianapolis on May 9, 1926, the daughter of Walter and Helen (Lochmueler) Schulz.

She graduated from Tech High School in 1944, where she met Richard Peeler in art class as a sophomore. She earned an associates degree in fine arts from the University of Minnesota in 1947.

Richard and Marj were married Jan. 25, 1948. They moved to rural Putnam County in 1950, where they built a unique rammed earth house. Together they started “Peeler Pottery” in 1966 and were full time potters from 1972 until Richard’s death in 1998.

She is survived by four sons, Walter and Andrea Peeler of Tucson, Ariz., Ramond Peeler of Westfield, Stewart and Elizabeth Peeler of Tucson and Ralph and Cathe Peeler of Fairbanks; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her brother David Schulz of Belmont, Calif.

Visitation will be at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, July 28. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to service time. A private burial will be held at the Cloverdale Cemetery.
