PREP ROUNDUP: South Putnam shuts out WRV 5-0 in finale

SWITZ CITY — South Putnam finished the boys’ tennis regular season on Monday with a 5-0 win at White River Valley.

The Eagles will meet Greencastle in the first round of the Northview Sectional today.

“It was a great way to finish the season,” SP coach Johnny Briones said. “Once again a long bus ride equaled a slow start, but the guys bounced back and played some really good tennis.”

Briones said his team gained some momentum going into the sectional.

“We got a tough draw in the first match against a well-coached and talented Greencastle team,” Briones said “It should turn out to be an exciting sectional.”

Volleyball

• Eagles finish second — At Mecca, South Putnam placed second in the Riverton Parke Tournament on Saturday.

South Putnam fell to Riverton Parke with the scores of 17-25 and 8-25 in the first match.

The Lady Eagles then beat North Vermillion with the scores of 18-25, 25-21 and 15-3 and Eminence with the scores of 25-17, 23-25, 15-9.

• Rockville 3, Cloverdale 0 — The Clovers lost to Rockville in their annual Pink-out Breast Cancer Awareness match on Monday by scores of 18-25, 14-25, 17-25.

The Clovers were lead at the net by Tori Combs, Kenzie Stoltz, and Justyce Monnett. The Clover defense was led by Hailey Thomas and Morgan Goss. The service line was led by Stoltz and Hannah Rady.
