I-70 traffic stop yields large marijuana seizure near Little Point exit
LITTLE POINT -- Interstate 70 in west-central Indiana yielded another significant drug seizure Thursday when an Indiana State Police trooper turned a routine traffic stop into a major marijuana bust.
Patrolling eastbound I-70 near the Little Point exit at the 51-mile marker, 10 miles east of Cloverdale, the trooper stopped a 2017 box truck for a traffic violation and as a result prevented a large shipment of marijuana from arriving at its reported destination on the East Coast.
At approximately 12:50 p.m. Thursday, the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Uniform Squad officer noted the traffic violation in western Morgan County and pulled the eastbound truck over. While speaking with the driver, Joshua Monte Wilson, 28, of Temecula, Calif., the trooper noted inconsistencies in his story and actions that indicated possible criminal activity.
A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted, which resulted in the seizure of 240 pounds of marijuana, 11.5 pounds of THC oil, and two pounds of THC wax.
Wilson was arrested for a Level V felony charge of dealing and possession of marijuana, more than 10 pounds, punishable by 1-6 years in prison. He was incarcerated in the Morgan County Jail at Martinsville without incident.
Hoosiers are urged to report illegal drug activity occurring in their area by calling the Indiana State Police Drug Tip Line at 1-800-453-4756.
