With DePauw University Winter Term at an end, Jazz at the Duck will make its return for second semester on Thursday, Feb. 8.

Jazz at the Duck takes place from 8:30-10:30 p.m. each Thursday that DePauw is in session at the Fluttering Duck inside the Inn at DePauw, 2 W. Seminary St., Greencastle.

Series organizers have announced the performers for the three February shows.

Tucker Brothers – Nick and Joel Tucker

Trombone and euphonium master Freddie Mendoza will kick off the spring season with his Feb. 8 performance.

Mendoza is professor of jazz trombone at Ball State University and is a commanding presence on the central Indiana jazz scene.

His playing often pays homage to the great trombonists of the jazz tradition such as J.J. Johnson, Curtis Fuller and Slide Hampton. Joining him will be Kenny Phelps on drums and DePauw’s own jazz ensemble director Steve Snyder on organ.

The Tucker Brothers will play at the Duck on Thursday, Feb. 15.

In recent years, guitarist Joel Tucker and bassist Nick Tucker have both become regular players in Indianapolis’ illustrious jazz community, but not until now have the brothers worked together on a collaborative project.

The result is a cohesive collection of music that draws on numerous influences, from indie rock to modern pop, making for an engaging, yet approachable jazz listen.

The Tucker Brothers will be performing songs from their debut album “Nine is the Magic Number” as well as songs from their upcoming album “Writing Prompts,” set for a summer release.

Thursday, Feb. 22 will feature one of the popular jam sessions with house band Veronica Pejril on piano, Bill Hamm on bass and Rick Provine on drums.

The jam session has been featured some notable sit-in performances by vocalists, horn players, bassists keyboard players and drummers.

The Jazz at the Duck lineup for the remainder of the semester will be released at a later date.
