State, federal races have local intrigue
Along with local races, the slates for state and federal races in the May primary were set on Friday afternoon.
The race for District 44 in the Indiana House of Representatives will featured three Putnam County residents.
Beau Baird of Greencastle and Jess Norton of Russellville will face off for the Republican nomination.
As the only Democrat in the race, Kim Fidler of Greencastle will face the winner in the November general election.
Jim Baird, who is leaving the District 44 seat, is one of 13 candidates for U.S. Congress in Indiana's Fourth District, with a total of seven Republicans and six Democrats.
Along with Baird, of Greencastle, the Republican candidates include Steve Braun, Kevin Grant, Diego Morales, James Nease, Tim Radice and Jared Thomas.
On the Democrat side, the candidates are Tobi Beck, Roger Day, Roland Ellis, Darin Griesey, Joseph Mackey and Veronikka Ziol.
These candidates are lining up to take the seat currently occupied by Todd Rokita, as he leaves in a bid for U.S. senator.
Rokita and fellow Congressman Luke Messer, along with Steve Braun, are seeking the Republican nomination for the seat.
Waiting for them in the fall will be incumbent Joe Donnelly, the only Democratic candidate for the seat.
