Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• A 40-year-old Indianapolis woman was jailed Monday afternoon after apparently crashing while driving under the influence of alcohol and THC.

At 5:01 p.m., a witness called Putnam County Dispatch after observing a woman in a 2012 Ford Fusion with the front bumper missing and rear bumper halfway off. The witness reported following the vehicle until the arrival of law enforcement.

Deputy Tanner Brown arrived in the area of Lincoln Hills Court and County Road 675 East and pulled the vehicle over.

The driver, Karinne N. Hankins, told Brown she was being followed by another vehicle and was texting on her cell phone. Hankins said she went into a ditch then drove out of it.

Hankins said she was just driving around until law enforcement pulled her over. She said her car had been damaged when she backed into a light pole in a parking lot in Indianapolis. However, damage was found to landscaping at 322 Lincoln Hills.

Brown noted that Hankins’ eye was swollen shut and had blood coming from it.

Hankins was transported to Putnam County Hospital for treatment of her facial injury. A blood draw at the hospital revealed that she had a .172 blood alcohol content. She was also positive for THC.

The only insurance card in the vehicle had expired in February 2017.

Hankins was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 8:55 p.m. for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.
