County Jail
Nine people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.
Wednesday
• At 10:24 a.m. Joshua James Wright, 28, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a local warrant.
• At 3:19 a.m. Matthew Sloan McCubbing Jr., 22, Crawfordsville, was housed at the jail for invasion of privacy.
• At 3:13 a.m. Leeza Rochelle King, 22, Crawfordsville, was booked in for disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement.
Tuesday
• At 7:05 p.m. Logan Michael Galloway, 19, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a local warrant.
• At 5:26 p.m. Jeffrey Adam Miller, 51, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.
• At 5:14 p.m. Billy Lee Jones, 41, Cloverdale, was booked in on a pair of local warrants.
• At 4:51 p.m. Corey Len Duff, 40, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a court order.
• At 2:57 p.m. Louis Michael Havey, 56, Reelsville, was taken into custody on a local warrant.
• At 2:55 p.m. Chaise Xavier Kohl, 24, Terre Haute, was housed at the jail for failure to appear.
City Police
One arrest and one traffic accident were reported in recent activity by Greencastle City Police officers.
• At 9:32 p.m. Tuesday, Nicole Lee Doerr, 33, Greencastle, was arrested on North Jackson Street by Officer Luke Brown following a reported theft at Dollar General, 507 N. Jackson St.
Doerr was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of theft, resisting law enforcement and carrying a handgun without a permit.
Doerr is accused of taking items valued at $18.40 from the Dollar General store located just across the street from GPD.
She allegedly paid for 32 items but concealed other items in her purse, including underwear, a hairclip and acrylic fingernails.
Meanwhile, one accident was reported early Tuesday at Indianapolis Road and Percy Julian Drive.
• At 5:30 a.m., Sgt. Eric Vaughan reported that Starla Jones, 48, Rockville, had come to a stop at the intersection when her 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer was struck from behind by a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Kayla Shrum, 20, Greencastle.
After impact, the Shrum car left the roadway, running into and damaging a fire hydrant in front of McDonald’s at the southwest corner of the intersection.
Vaughan reported that Shrum was slumped over and appeared unconscious when he approached the vehicle. Shrum immediately came to, however, although she was reportedly disoriented and may have suffered a seizure, the accident report noted.
Shrum was transported via Operation Life ambulance to Putnam County Hospital for observation.
Total damage in the accident was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.
Sheriff’s Department
Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.
• At 8:52 a.m. on Wednesday, Michael R. Brown, 62, Indianapolis, was westbound on U.S. 36 when he lost control of the 1995 Chevrolet extended van he as driving.
The vehicle left the road and struck an embankment and several trees.
Brown told Deputy Josh Boller he apparently fell asleep or “passed out” prior to leaving the road.
Complaining of back pain, Brown was taken to Hendricks Regional for evaluation.
The van was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.
• At 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday Lynne M. Allbrook, 47, Fillmore, was eastbound in the right lane of U.S. 40, approaching County Road 200 South in a 1999 Jeep Cherokee.
Allbrook told Deputy Matt Biggs she saw a truck coming through the median from County Road 200 South. The truck entered the eastbound lane and crossed from the left lane to the right lane, into her path.
Allbrook said she braked and honked but could not avoid a collision. Upon contact, her vehicle spun 180 degrees in the right lane before leaving the south side of the road, striking a wooden fence as well as an electrical wire fence.
Trevor A. Piersall, 23, Fillmore, was driving the truck, a 2017 Ford F450. He told Biggs he was entering the eastbound lane of U.S. 40.
Piersall said he heard a loud noise and looked back and saw Allbrook’s car spinning.
Piersall said he was in the left lane at the time of the accident.
However, all information gathered by Biggs at the scene involved the right lane of travel, indicating that Allbrook was in the right lane at the time of the collision.
Allbrook’s car sustained heaving damage both from impact with the truck and with the fence. It was towed.
No injuries were reported.
Damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.
• At 11:08 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, Melissa L. Hooker, 29, Terre Haute, was northbound on U.S. 231 just south of County Road 350 South in a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. M. C. Reynolds, 49, Dugger, was southbound in a 2013 Ford F150.
Hooker told Lt. Donnie Pettit she was attempting to turn left into a driveway and failed to see Reynolds approaching, turning into his path.
Reynolds’ truck hit the rear passenger side of Hooker’s car.
Pettit estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.
• At 6:29 a.m. on Friday, June 8, James J. Lantau, 45, Brazil, was northbound on County Road 375 West just south of County Road 575 South in a 1987 Porsche 944.
A deer entered the road and ran into the driver side door area of the car.
Lt. Pettit estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.
City Fire
The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six recent dispatches.
• At 1:35 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was called to a smoke scare at 1901 Windemere Dr. Firefighters arrived at 1:47 p.m. and found that there was no issue.
They left the scene at 2 p.m.
• At 6:04 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 25 Putnam Plaza. Arriving at 6:12 a.m., they found that a duct detector was activated.
They reset the alarm and left the scene at 7:07 a.m.
• At 8:32 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm at 420 Anderson St. They arrived at 8:39 a.m. and found that the alarm was due to cooking.
They left the scene at 8:42 a.m.
• At 10:15 a.m. on Monday, units were dispatched to a fire complaint at 306 W. Washington St. They arrived at 10:21 a.m., and approved the burning as recreational.
They left at 10:26 a.m.
• At 11:53 p.m. on Monday, units were dispatched to 3925 S. CR 150 West for a tree on the roadway.
They arrived at 12:08 a.m. and cleared the scene at 12:29 a.m.
• At 5:34 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to a traffic accident at the intersection of Percy Julian Drive and Indianapolis Road. They arrived at 3:44 p.m. and addressed a damaged fire hydrant. They left the scene at 3:54 p.m.
Additionally, GFD units performed 10 medical assists.
