Library Board expected to name new director

Monday, June 25, 2018

The Putnam County Public Library will soon have a new director, pending approval from the PCPL Board of Trustees.

Alan Zerkel, the current president of the PCPL Board of Trustees, has confirmed to the Banner Graphic that the issue will be on the board’s agenda Wednesday night.

The vote comes after an approximately four-month process to find an individual suited to the task.

“We (the board) began our discussions about what we needed in our new director in late February,” Zerkel said, after the resignation of former director Grier Carson.

PCPL posted the position in April to job lists at the American Library Association, as well as universities like Indiana University which have library science programs.

Zerkel stated that PCPL had the search narrowed to six candidates shortly afterward, with the final three giving community presentations in late May.

The new director will succeed Carson, who resigned after four years in the PCPL role to accept the position as director of the Monroe County Public Library.

The final three candidates being considered for the position are:

•Krystal Becker, currently the marketing and communications director for PCPL, and a former director of the Linton Public Library;

•Brian Briscoe, former catalog manager of St. Charles City-County Library in Missouri, and currently a cataloging supervisor for a major book distributor; and

•Sue Parsons, a former program director at PCPL, and the current manager of the Arcata branch of the Humbolt County Library in California.

The PCPL Board of Trustees will vote on the new director at its monthly meeting Wednesday, starting at 6 p.m. at the Putnam County Public Library, 103 E. Poplar St., Greencastle.
