LIMEDALE — Celebrating the reclamation of yet another forgotten piece of property in Putnam County, People Pathways invites the public to the opening of a new segment of the Putnam Nature Trail.

The celebration is set for 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at the brand new Putnam Nature Trail Shelter off County Road 150 West (Lone Star Road).

The trail will officially be opened by a group of South Putnam students.

The design and painting was done by Civic League member Sarah Chizum, who painted a warm welcome for People Pathways visitors on and old railroad switchbox.

The new trail marks another connecting link in the growing People Pathways multi-use trail system.

The location also gave the Greencastle Civic League the opportunity to add to its growing collection of murals to beautify Greencastle and the surrounding community.

This time, the design and painting was done by Civic League member Sarah Chizum, who painted a warm welcome for People Pathways visitors on and old railroad switchbox.

Formerly a rusted relic of the trail’s former use as a rail line, the box was cleaned and painted, featuring the logo and colors of the Pennsylvania Rail Road while also identifying the “People Pathways Putnam Nature Trail.”

Attendees are also invited to enjoy some hobo stew with fixings, rounded up and prepared by Danny Smiley.

To get to the shelter and accompanying mural, head south from Greencastle on Manhattan Road, through Limedale before turning southeast on County Road 150 South (Lone Star Road). Proceed approximately one-quarter mile. The shelter is on the west side.

It is wonderful to see the Pennsylvania Rail Road Keystone on public display in Putnam County once again. Long proud history in the County. Where would Greencastle have been without the Rail Roads?
