15th annual Crown Street Music Festival to feature all local acts Sunday

Monday, August 27, 2018

Featuring a full slate of local musical talent, the 15th annual Crown Street Music Festival takes center stage on Sunday, Sept. 2 at the Community Center, located at 605 Crown St. in Greencastle's South End.

The Grateful Dead tribute band, Dreadful Greta, features local musical artists (from left) Lucas Eckrich, Parker Black and Taulbee Jackson.

The annual fundraiser is the Crown Street Community Center Family Youth and Community Development Program's primary source of revenue to support its programming throughout the year.

This year the festival is dedicated in memory of Bob Hershberger, a passionate and longtime DePauw University professor, board member and supporter of the Community Center, who passed away suddenly in May.

Everyone who has attended the festival in the past is aware of what a special community event this has become, and anyone and everyone is invited to join the group in the spacious yard behind the Community Center to listen to a group of talented local musicians perform.

The concert begins at 1 p.m. and lasts all afternoon. Local food and drinks will be available for sale by the Greencastle Lions Club.

The musical lineup this year starts off with an acoustic set by Chris Wurster at 1 p.m., followed at 2 p.m. by Julianna Goldsmith, Alejandro Puga and Istvan Csicsery-Ronay.

Blues Side Up will perform at 3 p.m. with noted bluesman and Greencastle resident Tad Robinson and his band taking the stage at 4 p.m.

The day's headliners, Dreadful Greta -- a Grateful Dead tribute and rock band -- will perform beginning at 5 p.m. with the show due to be over before 7 p.m.

All of the money raised during the annual Crown Street Music Festival will go directly to programming and building renovations. Programs are run by committed community volunteers and DePauw students.

Current programs offered at the center include a highly successful Robotics program in collaboration with Tzouanakis and Deer Meadow schools, Spanish enrichment for local school-age children, computer refurbishing and distribution to qualifying local families through the Community Technology Enrichment Program (CTEP), and sustainability projects for the community.

The Community Center is also used as a meeting space for local organizations such as the Girl Scouts.

Tickets for the Crown Street Music Festival are $5 in advance or $10 at the gate. Tickets for seniors and students (with ID) are $5, while children under 10 are admitted free.

Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at American Rental in Greencastle, Taylor Made Awards and Apparel, Greencastle, or by calling Charles Miles at 653-9503.

The Crown Street Music Festival is a non-smoking, pet-friendly event.
