Barely an hour into the swing of things Friday evening, Fillmore volunteer firefighters Richard Wood (front) and Jesse Cavaness are hard at work to feed the already large crowd at the annual Fillmore Chicken Barbecue. This is the 59th year the Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department has hosted the barbecue, bringing residents together for a meal with all the trimmings. The event kicked off Friday evening at the fire station, which provided ample seating as well as enticing smells. The barbecue picks up again today at noon, with the annual parade set to get under way at 1 p.m. A flea market will also continue this afternoon with the bloodmobile on site from 2-6 p.m. A Stat Flight emergency helicopter is set to make a demonstration landing at 3 p.m., weather permitting.
