TRAFALGAR — The Greencastle Tiger Cubs finished in third place in the Western Indiana Conference volleyball standings after defeating Indian Creek 3-0 in the crossover match Thursday night.

Greencastle won by scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 27-25 to improve to 17-6 on the season.

“The Cubs were able to gain the momentum from the start and carry it through the third and final set,” Greencastle coach Maggie Walters said.

Offensively, the team was led by Lilly Meyer (eight kills), Allison Stevens (seven kills), Jada Amis (six kills) and Jalyn Duff (20 assists).

Mckenzie Woodall led the defense with 14 digs, while Duff added 11 digs and Ivy Wright finished with eight digs.

“The Cubs were able to get Indian Creek out of system by serving aggressively,” Walters said.

The team finished with a total of eight aces, with Wright recording four of those.

The team travels to the Clinton Prairie Invitational Saturday to close out the regular season.

Tennis

Eagle doubles team falls — A night after South Putnam’s team being eliminated 3-2 by Parke Heritage in the Crawfordsville Regional boys’ tennis tournament, the Eagle No. 1 doubles team saw its season end on Wednesday.

Continuing through the individual portion of the state tourney, senior Austin Arnold and junior Tanner Pistelli lost 7-5, 6-3 to North Montgomeryh’s Jaxon Plant and Matt Jackman.

“Doubles in tennis is so fast paced and so exciting to watch, and this match was just that,” South coach Johnnie Briones said. “All season long Austin Arnold and Tanner Pistelli were so much fun to watch. They work hard and played so well together, and tonight unforced errors took their toll on the duo.”

Arnold and Pistelli finished with a 14-2 record.

“They had an awesome season,” Briones said. “They were part of a team that accomplished so much in the last two years, being back-to-back sectional champions, as well as this year’s conference champions.”

Briones is glad to see Pistelli return next fall for his senior season, and will miss the contributions of Arnold — as well as his other seniors.

“Although we will be losing Arnold to graduation, he has contributed so much to our program,” Briones said. “We will miss him tremendously next year.”
