A veteran Indiana State Police trooper assigned to Putnam County escaped serious injury Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident while responding to a crash at the 38-mile marker on Interstate 70 in western Putnam County.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., Master Trooper DuJuan Presley-McFadden sustained minor injuries in an accident near the 60-mile marker in Hendricks County, a mile east of the Belleville-Monrovia exit.

Master Trooper DuJuan Presley-McFadden escaped with minor injuries Monday afternoon despite his car leaving the roadway and rolling several times in a one-vehicle accident at the 60-mile marker of Interstate 70 while he was en route to investigate a crash on I-70 in western Putnam County.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Presley-McFadden, a 20-year veteran of the State Police, was responding to a crash two miles west of Cloverdale, at the 38-mile marker on I-70. The trooper was traveling westbound in his police vehicle, a 2018 Dodge Charger, when his car hydroplaned due to water on the road, State Police reported.

Presley-McFadden

Presley-McFadden's car left the roadway and reportedly rolled several times, eventually striking an I-beam of a road sign.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

McFadden, the personable trooper whom Putnam County residents might remember as the co-winner of last year's Dancing with the Stars competition, was transported to Hendricks County Hospital following the accident. He was treated there for cuts, abrasions and head injuries and released.

Presley-McFadden was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, State Police said.

The case is being investigated by Indiana State Police Trooper Brian Thomas. Assisting at the scene were ISP Sgt. Cory Robinson, Trooper Ted Robertson and Trooper Andrew Mattern. Also assisting was Hendricks County EMS.
