Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated five recent property-damage accidents.

• At 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Wesley S. Curtis, 74, Solsberry, was northbound on U.S. 231 when a deer ran into the driver’s side of his 2012 Chevrolet Equinox.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 1:28 p.m. on Monday, consecutive slide-offs occurred on westbound Interstate 70 near the 38.5-mile marker during heavy rains.

Mary Kate Neary, 22, Oak Lawn, Ill., was westbound in a 2015 Ford sedan.

Neary told Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle she felt like she hydroplaned and lost control, leaving the road and hitting a road construction pylon with the driver’s side. However, the pylon kept the vehicle from impacting the concrete support of an overpass.

Neary was not injured and Rozelle estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

Moments later, Kelsey J. Keller, 20, Kokomo, was westbound in a 2016 Cadillac ATS when she also hydroplaned.

The vehicle left the road and entered the median, causing heavy front-end damage.

Keller was also uninjured. Rozelle estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

Both vehicles were towed.

Rozelle was assisted at the scene by Deputy Scott Ducker and Cloverdale Police Officer Billy Wallace.

• At 6:06 a.m. on Monday, Adam B. Barker, 44, Bainbridge, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2014 Honda Civic during heavy rains.

Deputy Brian Helmer reported that Barker came out of a corner and hydroplaned, which caused the car to spin a few times before entering the ditch on the west side of the road.

The vehicle sustained front-end and rear-end damage, but was able to be driven from the scene after it was pulled out of the ditch by a wrecker.

Barker was not injured.

Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 1:20 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, Lindsay J. Frazier, 19, Cloverdale, was southbound on County Road 475 East in a 1998 Toyota Camry when she hit a deer.

Deputy Soilleux estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

• At 2:12 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:17 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left the scene at 2:32 p.m.

• At 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched for its first run of the year to a downed power line at 16 S. Jackson St. Units arrived at 12:48 to find that a tree had fallen and also ignited a small fire, which put itself out before their arrival.
