County Jail

Six people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 5:08 p.m. William John Smith, 27, Spencer, was booked in for possession of paraphernalia and on a local warrant for auto theft.

Tuesday

• At 4:38 p.m. Stacy Dean Lewis, 45, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 3:19 p.m. Jamie Dawn Lewis, 31, Cloverdale, was taken into custody on a local warrant and a writ of body attachment.

• At 1:30 p.m. David Allen Schmitt, 47, Coatesville, was housed at the jail on a local traffic warrant.

• At 1:02 p.m. David Alan Brown, 54, Greencastle, was booked in for theft.

• At 10:17 p.m. Andrew Jackson Bradley, 42, Gosport, was lodged at the jail on a court order.

City Police

Greencastle City Police officers recently investigated a reported shoplifting incident at the Walmart Store off Indianapolis Road.

Officer Luke Brown was called to the store at 6:11 p.m. Saturday to investigate the theft of a number of personal care items.

Teshemah Jones, 18, Chicago, was arrested on theft charges after she reportedly put such items as fake eye lashes, body spray, deodorant, rosewater toner, shower foam and baby wipes in her backpack, passed by the last point of sale and attempted to leave the building without paying.

Officer Brown listed the stolen items as valued at $76.

Jones was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Five recent citations were issued by city officers.

• At 10:57 a.m. Tuesday, Sarah McFerron, 22, Fillmore, was cited by Officer Nick Eastham.

Stopped along Fillmore Road, McFerron was ticketed for operating with expired plates (July 2018).

• At 10:22 a.m. Tuesday, Derek Hackleman, 40, Greencastle, was ticketed for speeding by Officer Eastham.

Stopped on Fillmore Road, Hackleman was cited for 53 mph in a 30-mph zone.

• At 3:58 p.m. Monday, Sherrie Haynes, 58, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Eastham.

Stopped on Percy Julian Drive near Indianapolis Road, Haynes was ticketed for operating with expired plates (May 2018).

• At 1:07 a.m. Sunday, Reginald Felton, 23, Gary, was stopped by Officer Brown on Jackson Street.

Felton was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

• At 10:37 a.m. Saturday, Abigail Cook, 19, Evansville, was ticketed for speeding by Officer Darrel Bunten.

Stopped on Veterans Memorial Highway near Warren Drive, Cook was cited for 61 mph in a 40-mph zone.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage accident.

• At 3:22 p.m. on Tuesday, Megan Hunter, 38, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231, driving a 2011 Ford Flex.

Hunter told Deputy Tanner Brown that a vehicle she believed to be silver Pontiac Grand Prix was following close behind her vehicle.

She said she activated her left turn signal and slowed to pull into her driveway. However, as she started to turn left, other vehicle sideswiped the passenger side rear of her vehicle, which caused Hunter to sideswipe a utility pole in her front yard at 3125 S. U.S. 231.

The second vehicle continued south without stopping.

Brown estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to five recent dispatches:

• At 4:09 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 402 Anderson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:12 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 4:26 p.m.

• At 9:44 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a citizen’s assist call concerning a detector issue at 455 Harvest Moon Dr. Units arrived at 9:51 and monitored the property for carbon monoxide, but could not find a source. GFD went back into service at 10:28 a.m.

• At 1:08 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of Jackson and Hanna streets. Units arrived at 1:12 and assisted the patients, as well as cleaned up debris from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 1:43 p.m.

• At 3:51 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD received a call about a smoking garage door motor at 704 Terrace Lane. Units arrived at 3:55 to find the company which installed the door was already on the scene, and were advised that a capacitor had gone bad. GFD returned to station at 4:03 p.m.

• At 7:36 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:40 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 7:45 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed three medical assists during this time.
