County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 2:07 a.m. John David Brickert Jr., 30, Coatesville, was lodged at the jail on a writ and on a local warrant.

Wednesday

• At 11:44 p.m. Rene Baldemar Lopez Belis, 42, Greencastle, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.

• At 10:10 p.m. Jacob David Cherry, 27, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

• At 11:53 a.m. Donald Eugene Smith Jr., 59, Fillmore, was booked in for theft.

• At 2:14 a.m. Gregory Dustin Barton, 45, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for domestic battery.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, Kyle P. Fenton, 27, Terre Haute, was northbound on County Road 275 East in a 2014 Chevrolet Impala when he failed to negotiate a curve. Fenton told Deputy Brian Helmer a deer ran into his path and he lost control.

The vehicle left the road and hit numerous trees head-on.

Fenton was bleeding from both arms and complained of pain. However, he refused ambulance transport and was treated at the scene by Operation Life. Fenton said family would take him to the hospital.

The vehicle was towed. Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 10:06 p.m. on Wednesday, Carol A. Ivers, 53, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 near County Road 75 North in a 2011 Honda CR-V when she hit a deer.

Deputy Jeffery Freeman estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 8:41 p.m. on Wednesday, Robert H. Cuddy, 20, Parkville, Mo., was westbound on County Road 200 South near Jackson Street in Greencastle in a 2016 Honda Civic when he failed to negotiate a turn.

The car left the road and hit a utility pole, causing heavy damage.

Two passengers, Sajda Karmacharya, 20, and Sanskriti Tripathi, 20, were transported from the scene for evaluation and treatment.

The car was towed.

Deputy Freeman, assisted by Greencastle Police Officer Alec Pettit and Trooper Austin Fowler, estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 10:16 p.m. on Monday, Trellon D. Osborn, 73, Markleville, was westbound on U.S. 36 in a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan when he hit a deer.

Osborn refused treatment at the scene.

The van was towed. Deputy Bobby Boyd estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to five recent dispatches:

• At 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 208 E. Olive St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:09 and determined that the alarm was due to burnt popcorn. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 3:17 p.m.

• At 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a smoke scare at 508 S. Illinois St. Units arrived at the residence at 9:52 to find a small recreational fire which was not reported. GFD informed the homeowner of the city burn ordinance and returned to station at 9:59 p.m.

• At 12:34 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 415 Anderson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:39 to find that a pull station had been activated. No fire was found, and the pull station and alarm was reset. GFD left at 12:44 a.m.

• At 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 1236 W. County Rd. 200 S. Units arrived on the scene at 8:54 and secured the roadway due to a broken power pole. Duke Energy arrived to address the damage, and GFD returned to station at 9:45 p.m.

• At 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 2835 S. County Rd. 275 E. Units arrived on the scene at 5:27 and assisted with patient care and securing the roadway. GFD returned to station at 5:42 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed three medical assists during this time.
